Food Chains

We have been learning a lot about insects. We looked at food chains and learned about how food chains work. Then we played a really fun game for practising food chains. Try it out yourself! The website is below - you can go to this website and then there is a link to the game on the left.

Jorja's Kittens Come to School

This week Jorja's kittens came to school. The kittens were so cute that I couldn't take my eyes off them. They were really really small because they were only new babies. There were 8 kittens and lots of different colour kittens. Some of the colours were ginger, some were dark, and there was one white one. All of the kittens were clawing onto the people that were holding them. All of the people in our class really really liked them because they were tiny, so they all wanted to keep them in the class. But, we couldn't because they were so small and they had to go home to their mum. I felt extremely excited about having kittens at school - I hope we see them again!

Drama at School

Last week we did drama in class. It was fun, we did heaps of activities. We learnt about gesture, voice, movement, and facial expression and space. We praticed them and it was fun. We pretended to be different characters, like docter, nurse, old lady, cowboy and patients. I like drama, it was a really cool time! Have a look at the photos.

Room 6 Futsal

By Jasper and Luca

Every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime we play Futsal.  Futsal is like soccer but there are only kick ins and no throw ins. We play for 12 minutes each game. We think its fun because it is like a new sport.
Room 6 started with two teams, one was the Soldiers and the other was the Swans. The Soldiers lost to Room 7 so they are out of the tournament but the Swans are still in. Once when we were playing the Swans won by one point. Our class likes to watch the games.

There are some photos of the games here.

We scored three goals in this game.

Our library visit

Last week Room 6 went to the Stoke Library.  We walked in partners there. Some people brought their own library card and took out some books, and some didn't.  The librarian read us a book called "A Grandma like that".  It was about a girl who had a witch grandma. The whole class laughed at the story. The librarian told us the rules as well. It was really really fun going to the library. Then we went back to school.

Our Insect Parade

The Mini Beast Fashion Parade.  By Siao-wei
My group making the horse sting bug

We took a picture of 3 Room 6 bugs!

We went outside and saw all the bugs

Room 6 bugs!
On Monday we dressed up as bugs. My group was a horse stinger bug. We used green, red and black paper to make our bug. We rolled paper to make antennae. Keegan dressed up as the bug in our group.  He really looked like a bug! The whole middle syndicate dressed up as bugs as well and then we went outside.  We had a fashion parade and Room 12 came to watch us. Some of the bugs were amazing. I felt very happy making the bug and watching the parade. The best bit was looking at all the different bugs.

Being Nervous!

Tonight, I was feeling nervous! This was because I was reading out to everyone about climate change (that's the same thing as global warming). At school it was a night for celebrating Maori and Pasifika cultures, and for parents to see what we have been doing in class. After we shared our learning, we had Krabby Patties (hamburgers!) for tea, aaaaand delicious icecream for pudding. My friend Stella-RosE was also there, and she talked about the no power day that her class made. Even though I felt nervous, I still stood up and did it. And then, I felt really proud of myself. And my little sister Alana said it was funny.

Last week the whole middle syndicate went to the swimming races. I liked it because we got to do overarm (Jay). I liked it because we got to do the mad-dash and that was fun (Lucy). We have put some photos on our blog - here they are below. The photos are of our relay team and we were two people in the relay team. Our favourite part of the swimming races was the relays because we got to race the other middle syndicate classes.

Global Warming Topic

In Room 6 we've been learning all about global warming and carbon footprints! What does all that mean? Well, you could check out these websites that we explored to find out some information:

http://globalwarmingkids.net/

and

http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/kids/index.html

Also - we are making our very own website with all of the information that we have learned so far. It's called a wiki, which is a site where you can share what you know, and anybody can read it to learn as well. We wanted to do this so that other people can learn about global warming too, and try to find out ways that they can REDUCE their carbon footprint. When it is finished we will tell you the website address.
